Claro Colombia to invest more than $200 million in its fiber network for AI applications

Claro Colombia has announced it will invest more than $200 million to strengthen its fiber optic network.

According to Claro, the investment will allow the operator to prepare its infrastructure for broader adoption of advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI). “With this investment, we are modernizing our network and creating the foundations on which to strengthen artificial intelligence in Colombia,” said Rodrigo de Gusmao, president of Claro Colombia.

de Gusmao added that “the infrastructure we are developing is essential for vertical artificial intelligence solutions, from telemedicine to industrial automation, to be implemented effectively, benefiting both companies and citizens.”

He noted that artificial intelligence has the potential to increase Colombia’s GDP by up to 10% in the next 15 years. Claro indicated that the investment will enable the transmission of data at unprecedented speeds, which, he explained, is an essential requirement for artificial intelligence applications that require processing large volumes of information in real time.

The telecommunications company added that its investments will not only focus on the country’s urban areas, but also on more rural and difficult-to-access places.
